Self-Confidence

I took a poetry class this semester in college and I loved it. I was integrated with so many different personalities, which I came to adore. I learned so much from my peers and their criticism. There was this one lady (she was young, I just like calling girls ladies) who would come in and she just had her own style. I loved her poetry and her confidence. She wrote a poem in class that caught my attention and had me sit back and relax and reflect on how I view myself.
I think in today's society so many young girls look at their flaws and hate them, but what we need to do is love them. Love who you are, what you look like, and your own personal style. I loved this poem, because this is a full blown personality of a wonderful woman who has found her divine nature of a daughter of God. LOVE YOURSELF, LADIES!!! It is what God intended for us to do!!! :)
I received permission from her to use her poem on my blog, and let me tell you....get ready for some amazingly written work!!!

To Be Spoken Aloud With Attitude & A Few Teeth Suckings

No one like me!
How could there be?
Not anyone with these thighs
I stay flying high
As I subtly strut down every hall, sprawled
I know that they’re all appalled
At the sight of my curly wavy free bird “good luck” natural God given frizz
Untamable
That most hairstylists deem uninhabitable and closer to a jungle

No one like me
Afro poof reaching each corner of every room, foxy
Dark red drippings from a chemical tube of a new beginning
This brain attached to the interior walls of my noggin brimming
With its nerves neurons and tubular veins wrapped like a papoose
Looks just like a raisin filled with knowledge juice
I soak up discovery with sunlight through a poet’s monocle
Shedding muddy red squiggles, it’s only anatomical
With these undusted little polka dots all over this olive face
I’m limitless, with nothing in my past to erase

No one like me
Body surrounded by fields of dirty veggies
Wind blasting my body until I’ve got a wedgie
And as this snow falls so willingly
I’ll move on from here towards infinity
While these farming cultures fade like a counter-revolutionary
Into the metropolis of my imagined future
Always surf the net til’ I sleep with my computer

Is there no one like me?
